Massive Damage
from Tornado on May 22, 2004
Wilber to Hallam, Nebraska
During the Saturday evening of May 22, 2004 a massive tornado 2.5 miles wide at times and rated F4 (up to 260 mph) on the Fujita Scale plowed through Saline, Gage, and Lancaster Counties in southeast Nebraska. Sadly, there was one fatality, yet this figure is remarkable considering the vast amount of damage. One can only imagine what devastation would have been produced if the tornado chose a path less than 20 miles north through the city of Lincoln (pop. 225,000). Photos of the damage and destruction are posted here to document how real and violent a tornado can be and are not intended to glorify nature's extreme. |
