Sunset over the Red River - June 26, 2006
Storm season 2006 is dead. There are signs of drought across North Dakota. On this day a storm did form west of Grand Forks that managed to become severe. I decided to skip it after spending $10 on gas to see the same junk a couple days previous. A cold front swept through the Red River Valley during the afternoon. North to northwest winds behind the front ushered in relatively thick smoke from large fires in the northern Prairie Provinces of Canada. I figured the sunset would look kind of neat so I got "in position"on the Sorley Bridge crossing the river. While the sunset was appealing, there was too much smoke at the surface to bring out sharp contrast in the photos. (Click images to enlarge) |
Setting sun viewed from the east bank of the Red River inn East Grand Forks. |
The sun sets to my northwest. A reflection can be seen on the water. |
Standing on the Sorley Bridge (DeMeres Ave) connecting Minnesota and North Dakota looking north. These anglers were in just the right spot to be "intercepted" by the solor reflection. A nice photo catch and hopefully they had a nice catch as well. Note the left photo is using the auto focus camera setting while the right is using infinity. |
Same folks fishing in the Red and enjoying the sunset. I'd be happy to send these guys a nice free 8x10 if I knew who they were. Send me an e-mail! It's not a very good storm chase season when you're second best June highlight is a sunset. |
